Strategic Dialogue on Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship

The Spanish Cooperation Strategy for Development Education, adopted in 2007, was developed in a significantly different international, social, educational and institutional context. Since then, the concept and practice of Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship (EpDCG) have evolved, creating the need for a new strategic framework.

This event will mark the launch of the participatory process for the development of a new EpDCG Strategy. It will bring together a diverse range of stakeholders from the education, cooperation and civil society sectors to build a shared vision, identify key challenges and priorities, and develop concrete proposals for the future Strategy.

The dialogue will explore the role of EpDCG in addressing global challenges through approaches including global citizenship, sustainable development, global justice, human rights, gender equality, ecosocial, anti-racist, decolonial and intersectional perspectives, as well as youth participation, transformative communication and the links between local and global action.

The event will combine a plenary session with collaborative work in four multi-stakeholder groups focusing on strategic priorities; implementation, financing and capacities; governance and coordination; and monitoring, evaluation and learning. The outcomes will contribute to the preparation of Draft 0 of the new EpDCG Strategy and provide a basis for the subsequent phases of the participatory process.

Objectives

• Launch the participatory process for the new Strategy on Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship.

• Build a shared vision among the different stakeholders involved in EpDCG.

• Identify key challenges, expected changes and strategic priorities for the new Strategy.

• Develop concrete proposals and measures for effective implementation.

• Clarify the roles of different stakeholders and identify the governance, coordination and institutional conditions required.

• Define priorities for monitoring, evaluation, knowledge management and institutional learning.
