**RE:DESIGN – FROM WASTE TO FASHION** is a school-based sustainable fashion project developed by fashion design students at the School of Trade and Fashion Design in Rijeka, Croatia.

The project explores how discarded and reusable materials can be transformed into innovative fashion designs and artistic installations instead of becoming waste. Students investigate the principles of circular fashion, reuse, upcycling and responsible consumption, while developing their own creative solutions through the fashion design process.

The project begins with the collection and analysis of discarded materials such as textile remnants, old garments, packaging, paper, plastic and other reusable materials. Students examine their visual, structural and functional properties and develop concepts for their transformation into fashion pieces and exhibition installations.

Through practical design and making activities, students experiment with reconstruction, deconstruction, layering, joining, manipulation and combination of different materials. The emphasis is not on reproducing existing garments, but on developing original designs that demonstrate how waste materials can acquire new aesthetic, functional and symbolic value.

The completed works will be presented through a school exhibition accompanied by photographs and digital documentation of the creative process. The exhibition will make sustainable fashion visible to the school community and the wider public and will encourage visitors to reconsider their relationship with clothing, materials and consumption.

The project connects creative education with the Sustainable Development Goals and demonstrates that sustainability can be approached not only as an environmental issue, but also as a field for creativity, innovation, responsible design and active participation of young people.

The project involves approximately 15  fourth-year fashion design students and is led by their teacher Maja Bižaca.

Što se događa kada odbačeni odjevni predmeti i materijali postanu polazište za modni dizajn?

U projektu RE:DESIGN učenici smjera Dizajner odjeće istražuju mogućnosti ponovne uporabe materijala i pretvaraju ih u autorske modne forme, eksperimentalne odjevne predmete i kreativne instalacije.

Stara odjeća, tekstilni ostaci, ambalaža, papir, plastika i drugi odbačeni materijali dobivaju novu funkciju, novu estetiku i novu priču.

Kroz istraživanje, eksperimentiranje, redizajn i praktičan rad učenice promišljaju održivu modu, odgovornu potrošnju i kružno gospodarstvo – ne kao ograničenje, nego kao prostor za kreativnost i inovaciju.
