I See Sustainability!
An educational initiative encouraging children and young people to discover the SDGs in their everyday surroundings and explore how they can contribute to a more sustainable future.
I See Sustainability! is an educational initiative that encourages children and young people to learn about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and discover their relevance in their immediate surroundings – at school, at home, in their neighbourhood and in society.
The initiative encourages students to become attentive and reflective members of society by observing, exploring, discussing and comparing the past and the present, and by considering how each of us can contribute to a more sustainable future.
Age-appropriate, creative and practical learning activities have been developed for different educational levels, from pre-school to secondary school. The activities can be easily integrated into lessons and encourage students to explore sustainability from different perspectives, including education, knowledge, communities, the environment and cultural heritage.
This year aset of educational worksheets, “Handwriting Laboratory”, developed by the National Library of Latvia, was created within the framework of the I See Sustainability! initiative. The worksheets encourage children and young people to explore sustainability not only in relation to the environment, but also through education, knowledge and cultural heritage.
The activities focus particularly on SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, including the protection and preservation of cultural heritage. Through reading, writing, exploring and creating, participants are encouraged to consider how knowledge and cultural heritage can be preserved and made accessible to future generations.
The initiative highlights that building a sustainable future is not only the responsibility of institutions – it is also in our own hands.
“Es redzu ilgtspēju!” ir izglītojoša iniciatīva, kuras mērķis ir veicināt skolēnu izpratni par ANO Ilgtspējīgas attīstības mērķiem (IAM) un palīdzēt ieraudzīt šo mērķu nozīmi savā tuvākajā apkārtnē – skolā, mājās, apkaimē un sabiedrībā.
Akcija rosina bērnus un jauniešus būt vērīgiem un domājošiem sabiedrības locekļiem – novērot, pētīt, diskutēt un salīdzināt pagātni ar tagadni, lai meklētu atbildes uz jautājumu, kā mēs katrs varam veidot ilgtspējīgāku nākotni.
Katram izglītības posmam – no pirmsskolas līdz vidusskolai – ir izstrādāti vecumam atbilstoši, radoši un praktiski mācību uzdevumi, kurus skolotāji var ērti iekļaut mācību procesā. Akcijas ietvaros ilgtspēja tiek aplūkota plašāk nekā tikai saistībā ar vidi – tā ietver arī izglītību, zināšanas, kopienu attīstību un kultūras mantojumu.
Šogad UNESCO Latvijas Nacionālās komisijas iniciētās akcijas “Es redzu ilgtspēju!” ietvaros Latvijas Nacionālās bibliotēka izstrādājusi darba lapu komplektu “Rokraksta laboratorija”, kas aicina bērnus un jauniešus domāt par ilgtspēju saistībā ar izglītību, zināšanām un kultūras mantojumu.
Darba lapās īpaši izcelts 4. ilgtspējīgas attīstības mērķis “Kvalitatīva izglītība” un 11. mērķis “Ilgtspējīgas pilsētas un kopienas”, kas ietver arī rūpes par pasaules kultūras mantojuma aizsardzību un saglabāšanu.
“Rokraksta laboratorija” ļauj šīs tēmas iepazīt praktiski – pētot, lasot, rakstot un radot. Rakstīšana ar roku iegūst arī simbolisku nozīmi: ilgtspējīgas nākotnes veidošana nav tikai institūciju uzdevums – tā lielā mērā ir mūsu pašu rokās. Materiāli būs pieejami, sākot no 25. septembra.
