Beyond GDP: Youth Vision of Progress and Building Skills for the 2030 Agenda
We will release the report on "Beyond GDP: Youth Vision of Progress and Building Skills for the 2030 Agenda," drawing on insights gathered through our Virtual Side Events to CSocD64 and the HLPF 2026.
In 2026, Think Tank AlterContacts has convened two Virtual Side Events to the United Nations — "Beyond GDP: The Voice of Youth in Advancing Social Development," held during the 64th Commission for Social Development, and "Closing the Skills Gap for the 2030 Agenda: Lessons from EU Transnational Partnerships," held in support of the High-Level Political Forum 2026. Together, these dialogues brought youth, educators, policymakers, and civil society from dozens of countries into direct conversation about how education, skills partnerships, and new measures of well-being can accelerate the 2030 Agenda. As a result of these two events, a report has been prepared consolidating the discussions, polling results, guiding questions, and participant feedback gathered across both sessions, capturing perspectives on youth engagement, transnational education partnerships, and rethinking progress beyond GDP. The insights and recommendations on youth-led decision-making, Erasmus+ funded skills partnerships, and inclusive frameworks for measuring social development will support ongoing UN and EU policy processes, including the work of the Independent High-Level Expert Group on Beyond GDP and future HLPF reviews.
The goal of this digital event is to share and promote the report and its findings to a wider audience of experts, students, and public administrators. Over the course of the event, held asynchronously online, the AlterContacts team together with project partners and the volunteers who participated in the two side events — including members of the United Nations Volunteers cohort onboarded for the sessions — will be sharing the report and its key findings on social media, primarily LinkedIn, in relevant groups and communities. This will raise awareness of youth-driven social development, transnational education cooperation, and the ongoing global effort to redefine progress beyond GDP.
In 2026 heeft Think Tank AlterContacts twee virtuele nevenevenementen bij de Verenigde Naties georganiseerd — "Beyond GDP: The Voice of Youth in Advancing Social Development", gehouden tijdens de 64e zitting van de Commissie voor Sociale Ontwikkeling, en "Closing the Skills Gap for the 2030 Agenda: Lessons from EU Transnational Partnerships", georganiseerd ter ondersteuning van het High-Level Political Forum 2026. Samen brachten deze dialogen jongeren, docenten, beleidsmakers en het maatschappelijk middenveld uit tientallen landen in direct gesprek over hoe onderwijs, vaardigheden partnerschappen en nieuwe manieren om welzijn te meten de Agenda 2030 kunnen versnellen. Naar aanleiding van deze twee evenementen is een rapport opgesteld waarin de discussies, poll resultaten, leidende vragen en feedback van deelnemers uit beide sessies zijn samengevoegd, met perspectieven op jongeren betrokkenheid, transnationale onderwijs partnerschappen en het herdenken van vooruitgang voorbij het bbp. De inzichten en aanbevelingen over jongeren gestuurde besluitvorming, door Erasmus+ gefinancierde vaardigheden partnerschappen en inclusieve kaders voor het meten van sociale ontwikkeling zullen bijdragen aan lopende beleidsprocessen van de VN en de EU, waaronder het werk van de Onafhankelijke Groep van Deskundigen op Hoog Niveau inzake Beyond GDP en toekomstige herzieningen van het HLPF.
Het doel van dit digitale evenement is het rapport en de bevindingen ervan te delen en te promoten bij een breder publiek van experts, studenten en overheidsfunctionarissen. Gedurende het evenement, dat asynchroon online plaatsvindt, zullen het team van AlterContacts, samen met de projectpartners en de vrijwilligers die aan de twee nevenevenementen hebben deelgenomen — waaronder leden van het cohort Vrijwilligers van de Verenigde Naties dat voor de sessies werd ingezet — het rapport en de belangrijkste bevindingen delen op sociale media, voornamelijk LinkedIn, binnen relevante groepen en gemeenschappen. Dit zal het bewustzijn vergroten over jongeren gedreven sociale ontwikkeling, transnationale onderwijs samenwerking en de voortdurende mondiale inspanning om vooruitgang opnieuw te definiëren voorbij het bbp.
