Architects of Change: Education for a Sustainable Future 2026
An ESDW 2026 technical school initiative promoting sustainable thinking, resource management, and green solutions for future professionals through interactive discussions and practical eco-activities.
As part of ESDW 2026, the Eco-Council of Latgale Industrial Technical School will implement an educational and practically oriented initiative aimed at promoting sustainable thinking, responsible action, and an understanding of the role each individual and future professionals play in shaping a sustainable future.
During the initiative, students and educators will be invited to discuss, share experiences, and jointly seek practical solutions in areas such as renewable energy, resource management, waste reduction, responsible consumption, green thinking, and environmentally friendly practices in professional activities.
The initiative is based on the belief that architects of change are not just creators of ideas – they are implementers of change. Therefore, special attention will be paid to turning ideas into concrete actions and solutions that can be implemented in the educational institution, the professional environment, and daily life.
The experience of the UNESCO Chair of Daugavpils University and the city’s educational institutions in the UNESCO Associated Schools Network, the Eco-Schools program, and international cooperation will also be utilized. The initiative will create an opportunity for experience exchange and the transfer of ideas among various members of the educational community.
Main activities
• discussion “Sustainable education – what does it mean for future professionals?”;
• experience exchange on the initiatives of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network and Eco-Schools;
• practical activity on resource maintenance and waste reduction, including a student’s personal story about sustainable action in Germany;
• joint brainstorming on sustainable solutions for educational and professional environment;
• “Architects of Change Idea Wall”, where participants will formulate specific and actionable ideas for sustainable behaviour in their educational institution, work environment, and daily life.
Latgales Industriālā tehnikuma Ekopadome ESDW 2026 ietvaros īstenos izglītojošu un praktiski orientētu iniciatīvu, kuras mērķis ir veicināt ilgtspējīgu domāšanu, atbildīgu rīcību un izpratni par katra cilvēka un nākotnes profesionāļa lomu ilgtspējīgas nākotnes veidošanā.
Iniciatīvas laikā izglītojamie un pedagogi tiks aicināti diskutēt, dalīties pieredzē un kopīgi meklēt praktiskus risinājumus tādās jomās kā atjaunojamā enerģija, resursu taupīšana, atkritumu mazināšana, atbildīgs patēriņš, zaļā domāšana un videi draudzīga rīcība profesionālajā darbībā.
Iniciatīvas pamatā ir pārliecība, ka pārmaiņu arhitekti nav tikai ideju radītāji – viņi ir pārmaiņu īstenotāji. Tādēļ īpaša uzmanība tiks pievērsta ideju pārvēršanai konkrētā rīcībā un risinājumos, ko iespējams īstenot izglītības iestādē, profesionālajā vidē un ikdienā.
Tiks izmantota arī Daugavpils Universitātes UNESCO katedras un pilsētas izglītības iestāžu pieredze UNESCO Asociēto skolu tīklā, Ekoskolu programmā un starptautiskajā sadarbībā. Iniciatīva veidos iespēju pieredzes apmaiņai un ideju nodošanai starp dažādiem izglītības kopienas dalībniekiem.
Galvenās aktivitātes
• diskusija “Ilgtspējīga izglītība – ko tā nozīmē nākotnes profesionālim?”;
• pieredzes apmaiņa par UNESCO Asociēto skolu tīkla un Ekoskolu iniciatīvām;
• praktiska aktivitāte par resursu taupīšanu un atkritumu mazināšanu, tostarp studenta pieredzes stāsts par ilgtspējīgu rīcību Vācijā;
• kopīga ideju ģenerēšana par ilgtspējīgiem risinājumiem izglītības un profesionālajā vidē;
• “Pārmaiņu arhitektu ideju siena”, kurā dalībnieki formulēs konkrētas un īstenojamas idejas ilgtspējīgai rīcībai savā izglītības iestādē, darba vidē un ikdienā.
