National Sustainable Development Strategy or Action Plans
  • Cyprus has Long Term Strategy and Green transition Strategies for 2030 and 2050
  • The long-term strategy addresses issues related to most of the SDGs even though there is no direct link between the SDGs and the policies.
  • The green transition strategy is a Roadmap for the Republic of Cyprus on Climate and Energy, as part of the country's participation in the collective European goal of a successful and sustainable transition to a climate-neutral economy by 2050.

Policy Coherence for Sustainable Development (PCSD)
  • DG Growth is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the implementation of Cyprus' commitments regarding the United Nations' 2030 Agenda on SDGs. In addition, there is a Governance mechanism for Long Term Strategy, for the Green Deal structure, and for coordinating procedures for Better Regulation.
  • The coordination with the subnational level is done through meetings and consultation with local and regional authorities when necessary
  • Evaluation Procedure for Impact of Programmes financed under the EU funds. The evaluation and actions on these issues are following the EU policies and guidelines.
  • Through campaigns, consultations with citizens and open dialogues. An e-consultation platform was launched by the Government aiming to create channels of communication and dialogue between the private sector/other stakeholders with public bodies during the process of formulating legislation through public consultation, based on the principles of transparency and accessibility.

Monitoring Sustainable Development
  • The monitoring is done through the European semester Social Scoreboard, Green and economic indicators. An effort is made to integrate SDGs into the annual budgeting procedure so as to have a correlation between Government budget and SDGs. A national monitoring mechanism for SDGs is also under development following a study prepared by UNITAR.
  • In each ministry and government body there is a dedicated administrator that follows up the progress related to the SDGs that are relevant to the work of each government unit.
