Evaluation and Review

The NSDS will be revised every four years and will, according to Icelandic law on nature conservation, be the main theme at every other environmental assembly (every fourth year). The current NSDS was revised in 2005 and a new publication with main priorities for the period 2006-2009 has been published (so far only in Icelandic). The main objectives are the same as in the 2002 NSDS but there are 47 new items concerning "ways of implementation".

Indicators and Monitoring

Iceland's NSDS presents a set of 38 indicators associated with the seventeen main objectives outlined in the strategy. The indicators are used for monitoring and are updated on a regular basis. The 2006 indicator report 'Statistical Indicators 2006' uses an updated SDI set consisting of 56 indicators.

The strategy will be evaluated in indicator-based follow-up reports and discussed at future environmental assemblies.
